In spite of all the extra running about and work involved in taking Lexi and Spencer to another activity twice a week (with a reluctant Ellie in tow), so far Taekwondo has been worth it all. The children love their time there. They beam when they realize it's time to go, and they pay rapt attention to all their instructors. Spencer has taken to slapping his arms to his sides and saluting a big YES SIR! at random times during the day, and they've both learned how to make a proper fist (thumbs on the outside) and how to deliver a straight punch. They're getting better at jumping rope, running an obstacle course, jumping, balancing and kicking a target. They're proud and excited and eager for each lesson.
Yesterday was the first day that Paulo has been able to attend, and it was also their first "board breaking day". I think that these occur about once a month, and they obviously build confidence and enthusiasm. First, the kids got to see how the experts did it, with flying kicks and spins. Then they learned how to break their own boards with their fists and feet. It was great fun to watch, and they both came away feeling strong, successful and especially proud to have been able to show Daddy their new skills.
